For this poster, I wanted to create a new visual identity for the Comic-Con brand, incorporating elements that are familiar to long-time attendees while also designing something fresh. I wished to convey the conventions aspects of excitement, creativity and pop culture on a visual scale.
To modernize the branding, I illustrated a new icon that could be used to represent the convention - a simplified take on the current Eye logo, which can be used on all Comic-Con promotional material.
For the advertisement, I drew loose inspiration from the production styles of the golden age of comic books, incorporating visual aspects like the halftone pattern. I was also inspired by early pop art, using a colour palette familiar to the work of artist Roy Lichtenstein. I included these formal aspects, as well as designs that are reminiscent of offset printing, to create an eye-catching design that is geometric and fun.
